Iowa Children’s Museum Volunteer Opportunities, February 2016

The weekend of February 26th - 28th is a very busy time at the Iowa Children’s Museum. Please consider volunteering for one of more these events. This is a great chance to get a start on community service hours before Spring Break.

Family Free Night: Friday, February 26, 4:45pm-8:30pm

Every last Friday of the month the Iowa Children’s Museum is free to the public.  Volunteers are needed to assist with projects, guest relations & safety, and quality assurance.  The ICM is looking for a lot of volunteers for this event, so this is a great opportunity to gather some friends together and get service hours together!

Cedar Rapids avionics company Rockwell Collins is sponsoring a special day of discovery and education. Volunteers will get a chance to assist in experiments led by real Rockwell Collins engineers. This day is expected to be very busy so the Iowa Children’s Museum is looking for lots of volunteers!

Play a crucial role in this literature festival! Volunteers are needed to assist children and families as they hear from published authors and get a chance to try their hands at writing themselves.  Note: The One Book Two Book Children’s Literature Festival will be celebrated at Hotel Vetro (downtown Iowa City).

Super Hero Night: Sunday, February 28, 5:45pm-7:30pm

A special night at the Iowa Children’s Museum, this event is dedicated to children with special needs and their families.  We are looking for volunteers who would like to interact with the families and help with taking down exhibits after the event.  Remember, you don’t have to wear a cape to be a super hero in the Iowa City community!

You’re here to get your J.D., but what if you could add “Playologist” to your resume as well?!  There are opportunities to volunteer six days a weeks at the Iowa Children’s Museum and help their staff (playologists) run events, interact with families, and putting props away after the kids are done enjoying them.  The Iowa Children’s Museum is very flexible about volunteer hours; please email Alex Alwine, Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@theicm.org to inquire more about dates and times.
