Lawyers & Leaders (L&L) programs complement the traditional legal curriculum and are open to all Iowa Law students. Attendance at one L&L event each semester is one requirement for membership in the Pro Bono Society for that semester.  Additional opportunities will be added throughout the semester.

Wednesday, January 17, 12:45 p.m. (245 BLB) - In the Shadow of Atticus: A Panel on Wrongful Convictions and Other Second Look Mechanisms 
The panel will discuss the intersection of today’s second look mechanism litigation and the lessons we learn in Harper Lee’s classic, To Kill A Mockingbird.

Thursday, March 7, 12:30 p.m. (295 BLB) - Free Them All: Abolition and Political Prisoners
A panel will highlight various political prisoners, provide some background information on their circumstances, and discuss the struggles faced by political prisoners and the corruption that allows the unjust detention of individuals for political gain

Thursday, April 4, 12:45 p.m. (235 BLB) - OWLSS Spring Conference 
A diverse panel of female attorneys will discuss the paths they took to their current careers in law and share advice for current students.  

Thursday, April 11, 12:45 (235 BLB) - Know Your Rights: The Iowa Civil Rights Act
Jacob Bennington of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission will discuss civil rights protections in the state.
