The Citizen Lawyer Program invites Iowa Law students to participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which helps low- and moderate-income taxpayers in the Johnson County area prepare and file their taxes. From February 7 through April 15, 2023, volunteers provide free tax help, preparation, and filing. Law student volunteers will primarily assist with intake. Training will be provided.

The project requires working at the VITA Clinic located in the University Capitol Centre (Old Capitol Mall). Students are expected to commit to one shift per week at the VITA clinics.  The shifts currently operate on Tuesday evenings from 4pm – 8pm and Saturdays from 9am – 1 pm and 1pm-5pm. Scheduling of specific shifts to be determined by agreement with the supervisor.  There are no VITA clinics scheduled during spring break.

This is an "off cycle" Pro Bono Project offered in cooperation with the Tippie College of Business. Students already participating in another CLP Pro Bono Project may simultaneously participate in the VITA Project.

Students interested in volunteering should complete this form: https://uiowa.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4JE85sq9uiX8iUK   Interested students will be contacted by the project coordinator in Tippie in mid-February.
