Shelter House is seeking volunteers to assist in preparing for its annual Book Sale held March 26 and 27. Book sorting starts February 14, and shifts will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays 10a
-2p, and Sundays 2p-4p. Volunteers will sort through donations to make them easily accessible. Shelter House will also need help during the Book Sale on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27. Several volunteer positions available include book sale organizer, checkout help, coffee shop, and tear down crew. Volunteers are also needed to distribute flyers to community boards around town. If you are interested in helping, please send an email indicating the day/time you would be able to volunteer to volunteer@shelterhouseiowa.org.
Lastly, the Shelter House is looking for volunteers for its Winter Shelter. The Winter Shelter is a satellite low-barrier winter emergency shelter which is open to anyone who needs a warm, safe place to sleep. Volunteers will assist staff in supervising the space which may include crisis intervention and conflict resolution. Additional duties include distributing winter clothing, managing food service, etc. Shift times and duration are flexible, but all shifts take place between 5pm – 8am, Monday - Friday.
