We invite you to take part in any or all of the following events:
Iowa State Bar Association Rule of Law Webinar - Friday, October 21 2:00-3:00 via Zoom (L&L event): The Iowa State Bar Association and Polk County Bar Association are co-sponsoring a free, virtual event that will explore how the rule of law provides opportunities to preserve our democracy and implement real change featuring these state bar leaders: President Henry Hamilton III; Diversity & Inclusiveness Chair Emily Chafa; President-Elect Ian Russell; and Vice President Melvin Shaw. Iowa Law Blood Drive - sign up Friday, October 21 9:00-2:00 in the BLB lobby: Stop by the lobby table to sign up for the Iowa Law blood drive which will take place November 10 in BLB. Sponsored by the Iowa Student Bar Association and Pro Bono Society Executive Board.
People's Law School Video Project - sign up online or October 21 9:00-2:00 in the BLB lobby; training Thursday, October 27 12:40-1:40 via Zoom: Law students can volunteer to assist in the review and development of video content for the Iowa State Bar Association's People's Law School. Volunteers will participate in a Zoom training meeting on Thursday, October 27 from 12:40-1:40 and then work with bar association members to develop new online legal resources for the public. The estimated time commitment is 3-5 hours over a 2-3 week period, including the training. Sign up in the BLB lobby on October 21 or register using this link by noon on October 25.
Service Appreciation Treats - Monday, October 24 11:30-2:00 in the BLB lobby: Stop by the Citizen Lawyer Program table during weekly lobby hours for a cookie as our way of saying "thank you" for your pro bono work and your community and institutional service! We also invite you to write a note sharing highlights or meaningful aspects of your service experiences.
Pro Bono Recognition Event - Wednesday, October 26 12:40-1:40 in 225 BLB (L&L event): Iowa State Bar Association Hon. President Henry Hamilton III and Iowa Student Bar Association Co-Presidents Sami Savala and Hugh Zehr will share remarks on the role of lawyers in society and the importance of public service. Following the remarks, we will recognize Spring 2022 Pro Bono Society members and participants in CLP Pro Bono Projects. Join us for a reception after the event!
